I have a question: When I press "r" it just selects from what is loaded (i.e. When I first open a gallery, it just picks from the 20 newest, top voted, etc), so for people with a lot of images, I need to scroll down for a long time to get a good pool to pull from to get closer to a truly random pick. Is there a more efficient way to do this?
Granted, I'm not going to be doing this much longer because of the limited selection in my own gallery, but just thought I'd ask.

Usually, for a larger gallery, I would select a sorting category first, sometimes scroll for a few pages, then press "R" to get varied results. YMMV, though.
