How exactly do you think this next gaming crash will happen? I don't think anybody seriously thinks that we will see a repeat of the first crash back in 1983. My personal theory is that another video game crash is possible, but it will only happen due to a general Recession. And since we keep on avoiding Recessions, it might be a while till we see a crash…

A crash on the same level as 1983 doesn't feel possible as console sales are still healthy at the moment, but I do feel like the third party "AAA" industry is going to eventually hit a wall where these companies will release too many games with absurdly high budgets and sales too low to make a profit that we'll see some form of "reset" within third party companies to reevaluate budgets. The part that sucks is I feel the near daily layoffs we're seeing might already be the start of this happening, these companies are laying off so many people from payroll in an attempt to still keep shareholders happy so they can report an increase in profits, but what will happen when these companies are then left with so few employees they can barely release their huge sellers in a timely manner? "Infinite growth year on year" feels downright unsustainable.

I feel we need the third party AAA space to actually regress back to the sixth or seventh console generations in terms of budgets and risk taking, as I feel within the AAA third party space we also don't see the level of variety we saw around 20 years ago (like imagine if Ubisoft or Activision didn't rely so much on a singular franchise to make them the majority of profits, they could really use the variety of IPs they used to rely on back in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube days).

I know on KYM we get wrapped up in the whole AI art debate. But their attitude extends beyond something like despising art or creatives.

An observation I've had for a while has reared its' ugly head again:
Some modern anime fans with this weird aversion to oldies. What's all this blubbering over things being "T O O. O L D."? Literally everyone on planet Earth has seen Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry as some point. You got no excuse.
Granted it wasn't until Devilman Crybaby happened that I was willing to actually give any manga made prior to the 80's a fair shake, but now I can and I feel like it's helped broaden my horizons, as well as allow me appreciate things I didn't before hand.

I honestly wish I could share certain nuanced thoughts without being afraid people will just assume immediate extremes. And yeah I realize some irony here as fuck am I guilty of doing just that, but I'm at least TRYING to change that.

I understand that so well you wouldn't even believe, communication on the internet is hard especially because this is the only social media platform I use and I fear that I could come out as overly harsh in my points.

Modern culture is all about consuming current product and go to next product immediately afterwards
Products of their time contain content that dates it to that era, for better and/or worse.
If you are lucky you can get away with the classics.
I don't care about that too much, Most of what I own for entertainment are some old Movies on Blu-Ray like Cats Don't Dance and plenty of Criterion Collectionmovies(Including The Passion of Joan of Arc, which coinincidentally just became Public Domain alongside Steamboat Willie), in videogames I use my Wii U's vWii(with evWii to fix the Wii mode image) to play Mario Kart Wii online or just play some Red Steel 2.

I just want subsidized healthcare and renewable energy investments, not this shit where I'll have to deal with a vote between a doddering old fuck and the guy who tried to sell steaks at The Sharper Image. It's all so tiresome.

You know i've been thinking. People praise Pocketpair now for what they managed to achieve with so little. But had Palworld failed the small size and inexperience of the team would've been sited as the reason of it's failure. Same works in reverse for big developers where the higher amount of resources can be seen as either an advantage or detriment. If a game becomes successful crunch time would be seen as people working their ass off to deliver the best possible product, but if it isn't crunch time will be seen as inhumane working conditions. Why are people like this?

Ironic Steam reviews are starting to become a bit tiring and not as funny as they used to be. Be it Starfield winning the "Best Innovation" award during the Steam Best of 2023 awards or Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League sitting at "Very Positive" on its opening weekend, I don't think the users leaving these ironic reviews realize the heads of corporate at the publishers aren't going to give a shit that the praise is a joke, they'll use it to their advantage and claim "see, people love our product!"

I hate how broadly tags are always applied to things. Doesn't seem to matter what it is, what medium we're talking about or the context. If something has a tiny hint of a tag, the tag gets applied.

Steam's Nextfest just reminded me of why this is a problem.

Well, I’ve finally got the appointment with the doctor for the EMT. Based on the previous CAT scan, they say that both the steroid and medicine treatment have treated fairly well during the past week. They say that I don’t necessarily need to do a nasal surgery, for now. Thank God. But they do recommend me to do sinus rinsing treatment twice a day for the next 3 months. If the results haven’t improved by then during follow up, then they’ll do a surgery. Regardless, I’ve been doing a bit better since then.
My apologies for being out of the blue for the past few weeks. It’s just that I don’t want to quickly jump the gun about health since I really don’t want to jinx myself stated that I’m doing fine so early.
But this experience made me realize on thing. I really need to change my main doctor to some more competent with me. If it weren’t for me trying reach out to another hospital my symptoms would be much dire.

I like avatars which are completely divorced from any work, person or media (hence the N/A). It weirds me out when a character I recognize becomes a mouthpiece.

Others are probably better at avoiding that association.

I see people on twitter posting dumb shit about my field because they're choosing to interpret information a certain way or too dumb to get it. That really triggers me.

Earlier today I had my second attempt at the FE Exam for Electrical and Computer engineers. And I'm pretty sure it fucked me again. '

This second time I made sure I understood every problem on the practice exam they sell and I even bought a entire practice book filled with practice problems. Of course this would up being a complete waste of time as they chose topics that were in neither of the practice materials, especially in the math section.

I can only fucking hope me being ready for Power/Circuits/Digital Logic this time will push me just enough into getting a pass.

Now for the part of this that really fucking pisses me off, they give you 5 hours total for a 110 question exam, but 10 of those questions don't have any affect on the outcome. Aside from being a complete waste of time. So you might spend precious time working on a problem that wasn't worth the fucking effort. Oh this exam costs 200 fucking dollars by the way.

You know what I hate?

Old fictional universes (like Star wars, 40k, Warcraft, etc) that retcon instead of adding to existing lore. Usually the retcons aren't necessary or are inferior too. It feels like they're option #1 instead of a last resort or clear best choice.

And the worst part is it becomes increasingly difficult to pick out the parts you actually like since they're usually overwritten, buried or (in the case of certain forms of media) go out of circulation.

Its been hard lately, life has been awful, this day on kym was especially shit too…..

God I sometimes want to delete all of my accounts, this one included…. Just vanish from the web….

I really wish a lot of the mods would come out of their…"hiding place" (the discord sever) and come back to interact with the actual website more. Not ban more or moderate more or anything like that (I dont really want that) just….be here and comment again.

Yeah I know that is partially my fault, and I am very VERY sorry about it, but still the website feels kind of abandoned.

THOUGH the thing is the website is not actually at all abandoned they are indeed moderating but the problem is that…. suddenly they do act people get banned but most of the mods nowadays act in complete fucking silence and with a degree of disgust, leaving people confused and frustrated.

I think there needs to be a lot more comunication and interaction between the mod staff and the website and what not.

The mods appear and interact, and I had no issues when talking to them. They seem to be nice enough.

If we want a change in how they interact with the community, the community is going to have to change as well. If a mod was present in most of the trending topics around here they'd burn out very quickly with how unpleasant it can get. Regular users certainly do.

Even as someone who likes to argue, I stick to whatever interests me. For those who are just interested in archiving thing or something light-hearted and fun, there's probably even less chances to contribute.

I hate finding mobile ports on steam. If your game was not designed for a keyboard+ mouse or controller from the start, I do not want to play it. Wish there was a way to blacklist them.

Got a new PC rig and have been transferring files over from my old rig.
Weirdly the only thing that gave my trouble was any cloud-based shit.

Extremely personal vent, but man I wish I didn't have such a low pain tolerance so I could get a tattoo. Seeing the tats my brother got and how even our own mother didn't react all that negatively to them has made me really want to get something I've really wanted (a black rose wrapping around my arm), but I've got such a low pain tolerance that I feel like I wouldn't be able to handle getting one. I'm LITERALLY weak skinned.

Recently I've heard someone I care about showing all the signs of, as we may call it, "terminally online brain rot". I didn't even know he had that much of an online life, but now I'm worried about his mental health as his mind seems to be going to some dark places. I fear his critical thinking isn't what it used to be, or maybe it wasn't as strong as I once thought it was.
I'm still kind of processing some of the words I've heard leaving his mouth, and I'm not sure if or how I should talk to him about this.

(Sigh). This place has a real problem regarding double standards and general competence.

Well, yesterday I got one of my teeth remove. It was the one that’s in the far lower left of my mouth, so it’s mostly unnoticed. It was due to being fracture in half and broken beyond repaired. all because I bite on a chip the wrong way and destroy the filling… and a quarter of my tooth in the process.
Actually I was dealing with a busted ass tooth for about 3-4 years. It was a combination of the covid outbreak, lack of fundings, and my dentist recommend me to out-of-city appointments for the extraction. But I finally found a place that would take the broken tooth out.
they say that my tooth was simultaneously too broken to properly grip it and too strong to pull it out because of the root conel. So they have to chisel it. Piece by piece. Despite the whole procedure, it wasn’t as painful as I expect (but then again, I was comparing my previous extraction on removing all 4 of my wisdom teeth). The real pain is dealing the horrid blood taste in my mouth for the following days. I have Ibuprofen with me (a bit too much actually) just to maintain the aftershock.

Why do these forum posts have edit buttons when you can't actually edit them?
Also what's with this weird rule that you can't delete your own posts after 30 minutes?

It’s going to be miserably raining the next few days, For the past hew months, it always has to rain whenever we actually have a chance to.

Also, I just got really sick from allergies and pollen. Haven’t been able to sleep very well either.

Twitter fucking sucks because its user base is too big and unsegregated. The algorithm is specifically designed so there’s no boundaries between different groups of people. That way things can end up on your feed without context, or things that will upset you can end up on your timeline. This is good for the website because exposing people to content that might piss them off is good for site engagement…
But not the human beings actually using it.

The fact that people can say something stupid (not even OFFENSIVE, just dumb, like a bad opinion on a recently released movie or something), and then go viral and get quote tweeted everywhere to get roasted isn’t really healthy for anyone involved. Because of the natural of Twitter in particular, you could get posts related to the dumb tweet recommended to you on your fyp, or people you follow could interact with it in some way and you can see it. Hundreds of thousands of people can see that dumb post, spread it around, and talk about it for days. Then people on social media become known and infamous for their dumb opinions. Hell just some random teenager can have something cringy they say become immortalized forever, and every few months to few years people will circulate the dumb thing they say in the form of a screenshot to laugh at it. People who really aren’t bad individuals could end up forever known- and embarrassed for some stupid shit they said one day three years ago. I can’t say I’m totally innocent though, I liked and laughed at many a screenshot about someone saying a “bad take” or acting like an airhead…. But I can admit maybe this general phenomenon that happens on modern social media might actually be more bad than good.

People just flat out bully one another for no reason other than thinking random cruelty is funny, and they can have like three thousand followers who are just as nasty as they are. So some rando can be posting a selfie or a mediocre drawing or whatever, then get quote tweeted by an asshole with a large account. And now they’re being made fun of by like a hundred people in the comments.

Forums can be so much better because they’re insular, with a much smaller number of people using them. Plus they’re divided into different sections, and you can’t just get random posts you might not want to see shoved in your face. Not to mention forum posts usually don’t get screenshotted and shared around, going viral on the forum, or on other websites. It’s much safer to be ‘cringy’ or what have you because there just aren’t as many eyes on you like that.

I don't get why skyrim is so popular.

It's my first TES game so I'm not speaking from a place of nostalgia. It simply didn't click with me. Ordinarily that'd be fine since I'm honestly not too big on open world games to begin with.

But I just don't see the magic. I don't see any real greatness with it. Nothing that makes me go "Not for me but I see why it's so popular."

It was my first TES game too and it didn't click with me either when it released. So many of its mechanics are incredibly shallow and its narrative/characters uninteresting. I find it amusing Skyrim being held as an exemplary rpg by fans a decade later when it is so lacking on many fronts. Only being highly regarded because of its robust modding scene to make up for its many flaws. But I consider that unfair when the vanilla game, as is by Bethesda's original vision, is mediocre as all hell.

It does have one saving grace, Skyrim is a visually pretty open world that does suck you in with a sense of awe and wanting to explore. Shame, that everything else about it kinda sucks.

There's nothing more cathartic than to see bigwigs who see themselves as untouchable get triggered by simple criticism. 

In all seriousness, I feel like I have had so many opportunities slip by me and that I am not doing enough.

I'm starting to hate that AI art is everywhere now. Aside from the obvious reasons, most of what it creates is the uncanny valley effect to the extreme. Every time I see eight fingers on a hand or a half melting face I have the creeping urge to whack one with a comicly oversized sledgehammer.
