Terrible Art for inspiring Better Artists

So I've been speaking to a lot of really good artists lately who don't feel like making or sharing anything because they don't feel like they're good enough.

I think people forget that there is no such thing as universally good art, as all art is personal to the viewer experiencing it.

Because of that, I've decided to share some of the terrible art I've done to help them feel more confident in doing the same; and if you'd like to join me in this, then please go ahead.

So without further ado, I'll start:

Angsty teenagers are Angsty.

I drew this shortly after my parent's divorce when I had first started university, had no friends and was practically raising my little brother by myself because my parent's stopped caring about whether he passed college or not.

That was about six-seven years ago and everything is much better now, so there's no need to worry.

Hands, and my terrible attempt at drawing them.

This is totally an original idea and not a variation of The Levellers Evil Sun logo because I thought it looked cool.

I wanted to create an African-styled tribal mask using Isometrics and I think this one turned out quite nicely actually,

If anyone wants a quick guide on how to draw isometric patterns, please let me know and I'll create a quick guide for you.

Part 2

I seem to recall basing this off an Australian Aborginal nature spirit called a Ya'mee, but upon further research, I think I may have made this up.

Still looks pretty neat though, I think.

This was suppose to be a soldier wearing a gas mask with two tiny glowing dots buried in the depths of the lenses.

However, I am very bad when it comes to drawing people, so it just looks like an evil Henry the Vacuum instead.

I still have no idea to go about drawing leaves on a tree so they actually look like leaves instead of fish scales, green fluffy clouds or mini trees.

Behold, a sea horse!

It goes "Glub" because in the ocean, no one can hear you "Neigh".

I use to draw some pretty crappy are myself, but I can't find it anywhere and I'm pretty sure it's lost to time. I will say, however, that I'll definitely be making some once I have photoshop; just need to switch to 10 first.

I have a feeling that I might be one of the people referenced in the OP. Possible Vanity aside, I'm really debating if I should throw old abandoned and new unfinished stuff here. Part of me says "Finish it and post it to Newgrounds like normal" and part of me says "Post on thread for the sole purpose of social interaction" and frankly I feel like I should put more effort into actually drawing before posting about my art left and right.

And not to derail, but, I couldn't really draw people decently until I went digital. I could sort of but it would end up even more so disproportionate than a certain early work. If anyone's curious as to where I am now, I've gotten down a formula for eyes and "noses" (It's literally just a straight line with some shading) my lighting/shading is still ultra-basic with me just taking the paintbrush, setting it to solid black and 50% opacity and just tracing over the edges on one side of the character although I have experimented with lighting although it's still nothing satisfactory IMO and I haven't really used it in anything I plan to post… I'm still working out mouths and they feel just a little off when they're open, but closed looks OK for the most part (because it's literally just a single line with maybe a couple of short ones at one corner to make it look like their cheek wrinkling from smirking.)

Aside from that, I'd say I'm doing fine other than my terrible time management, thinking faster than I can draw and tendency to come up with designs that are probably a little too complex for me (I wanted to have my nandroid OC made but I put it on hold because of how crazily divergent and complex it's appearance is and the fact that I only thought about what it looks like from the front… oops.)

So sorry if I derailed the thread or anything, but I just felt that this was at the very least tangentially relevant and wanted to share my art experience so far. Soup King, you've got some interesting ideas. WarriorTang, you seem like a cool writer, were you going to commission that to an artist? That was my first idea when I saw it, sort of like a storyboard?

I was hoping to, but I didn't look very hard so I couldn't find someone. Those two pages are the only part of the story that I've storyboarded like that.

If the only thing that is holding you back is a lack of photoshop, you could try giving Photopea a go.

One of the Mods, JuicyDeath I think, introduced me to it and it's the program I've been using to make all of my images and gifs so far.

As far as I ca tell, it can do everything photoshop can do on a basic level and uses the same tools as well. I'm not sure how it compares when you get to the really high-level, complex bits, as I haven't needed to do any of that so far, but it works well enough for day-to-day use.

I'll give the tool a looksie to get started, but the main thing I want photoshop for is to make custom assets for streams and youtube vids once I learn how to edit. In regards to art, I have quite a few ideas for bizarre collages in the same spirit of cyriak or jibjab, but a lot more meme-y; I just need to learn how to use the tools and a good chunk of their features first, but I can make and release smaller test projects along the way.
