Elon Musk Babyfur Rumor refers to a viral rumor that American entrepreneur Elon Musk has had an active interest in the babyfur fandom, which is a subgroup of the furry community who roleplay as child characters. Spawned by a viral X post in late July 2024, the unconfirmed rumor became a viral subject of speculation and memes in the following days.
Origin
On July 25th, 2024, X[1] user @FionaMaray posted a photograph of entrepreneur Elon Musk, commenting, "Where do you think his downfall started?" Later that day, X user @bnuuyhopper replied, "when he failed to worm his way into the bay area babyfur community in like 2009 (true story)." The post (shown below) received over 4.1 million views, 3,000 reposts and 54,000 likes on X / Twitter in four days.
Babyfur refers to a member of the furry fandom who enjoys roleplaying as young furry characters.[7]
In the same thread, X user @bnuuyhopper wrote that they heard the rumor from several people, claiming "so it has to be true."

Later on July 25th, 2024, X[2] user @HYEANFREQUENCY posted screenshots of Elon Musk's past activity on X / Twitter that supported the rumor, including an April 2019 tweet[3] in which he described himself as "fur-curious," and screenshots of Musk roleplaying as a toddler on his alternative account @ErmnMusk, which he confirmed in 2024 in his deposition.[4] The post (shown below, left) received over 5,100 reposts and 39,000 likes in four days.
On July 27th, X[5] user @christiolson posted a photograph of a man resembling Elon Musk wearing an owl onesie pajamas while rolling a joint (post shown below, left; photograph shown below, right). The photograph, supposedly sent to @christiolson by a Tesla employee in 2021, received over 6,600 reposts and 50,000 likes in two days.
Following the posts, the rumor saw viral spread on X / Twitter, with users discussing it and posting memes. On July 27th, 2024, X[6] user @francisxwolf posted a Worst Joint Ever meme that gained over 680 reposts and 4,500 likes in two days (shown below, left).
Later that day, X user @__randoseru posted a George Bush Learning About 9/11 meme that received over 70 reposts and 430 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
