Where Does This Deer Girl Come From? The Noko Shikano Meme From 'My Deer Friend Nokotan' Explained
Every once in a while, an anime is so absurd and surreal that its most bizarre scenes enter memedom. This season, that anime is My Deer Friend Nokotan, a comedy about a high school student who makes a tenuous friendship with the new girl, who just so happens to, apparently, be part deer. The show only has two episodes under its belt so far but has just as many memes already. In addition to its dance in its OP receiving edits, a shot of the deuteragonist Noko has been the subject of many redraw memes over the past week.
What Is The Noko Shikano Entrance Meme?
In the first episode, Noko Shikano, the girl who is part deer, arrives as a new student, much to the vexation of uber-popular Torako Koshi, who fears that Noko can see through her ruse as a perfect student and expose her delinquent past. Perhaps to underscore the threat posed by Noko, her entrance into the classroom is shot in slow motion. Her antlers break the classroom door's frame, sending debris everywhere and causing several students to start bleeding, though they don't seem to care.
The scene is the standout gag in a very funny first episode of My Deer Friend Nokotan, which is probably why videos of the scene have been reposted widely throughout YouTube, gaining millions of views.
How Has The Noko Shikano Entrance Been Memed?
The scene clearly left a lasting impression on viewers, as social media artists took to redrawing the scene with myriad characters from pop culture, particularly other anime characters and VTubers.
Meanwhile, on YouTube, the scene has been the subject of various edits. Shortly after the episode aired, YouTuber Mroji777 posted an edit splicing the scene with Attack on Titan, gaining over 178,000 views in one week. A few days later, the channel "Made More Epic" did the same.
It's worth noting that both My Deer Friend Nokotan and Attack On Titan were both made by Wit Studios, so perhaps the company has a thing for dramatically breaking walls.
