After Kamala Harris announced her candidacy for President in July 2024, a variety of groups associated with or supporting the campaign engaged in fundraising efforts. Analysts described these events as "Zoom-based campaign rallies."^[1] A call on Thursday, July 25th called "White Women: Answer The Call" hosted 164,000 participants.

On July 26th, 2024, event organizers affiliated with fundraising groups for progressive causes announced the call, citing the earlier Zoom call rallies for different demographic groups. X / Twitter user @MichaelSkolnik, one of the organizers alongside David Hogg and Ross Morales Rocketto, posted about the event on July 26th (seen below), earning over 28,000 likes in the course of three days.^[4]

On July 27th, an official social media account named "White Dudes For Harris" was created alongside an associated website. The website centered around a Google Form to sign up for an 8 p.m. EST Zoom call and a series of links for donating money to the Harris campaign.^[2] The copy advertising the event read:

Together, we aren’t going to sit around and let the MAGA crowd bully other white guys into voting for a hateful and divisive ideology because we understand that under MAGA everyone loses. We know that as white dudes, we have both a strong, and positive role to play in America’s shared future, and it begins with all of us cutting through the MAGA crap and reminding the folks who have co-opted American symbols what America actually means. We are excited to join together with you in this fight.

Announcement Of The Event

The event was announced on X on July 27th, 2024, by the X account @DudesForHarris in a post that received over 2,400 likes and announced the participation of Pete Buttigieg in the call.^[3]

By the afternoon of July 29th, the X account @DudesForHarris reported (seen below) that there had been over 90,000 sign-ups and that the rally had been covered on television by CNN and discussed widely across social media.^[5]

Online Reactions

Many posted in support of the rally after it began garnering reactions in late July 2024, including the X account @DarkBrandon, the official meme-oriented account of Joe Biden's political organization. Dark Brandon referenced White Boy Summer and celebrated the call, receiving over 1,700 likes in two days on July 27th (seen below).^[6]

On July 29th, 2024, Donald Trump Jr., the son of the Republican presidential nominee, mocked the event, suggesting that it be called "Cucks for Kamala" instead, receiving over 9,500 likes in two hours (seen below).^[7]
