KYM Rules

Please note, these apply to the ENTIRE site.

Avoid duplicate topics. Use forum search and check for pre-existing threads on the same topic before creating a new one. If there is another thread that pertains to your topic, post your thoughts there instead of starting a new thread.

Keep it relevant. If you have nothing to say on a particular subject, you can skip the topic and move on. If you want to address a specific individual about personal matters, contact the user via private message instead of starting a public discussion.

No porn or gore. External links to sites containing such content or ads will be censored at the discretion of moderators, unless it is absolutely vital to meme research discussions and accompanied by a clear [NSFW] warning label. [1]

No flooding or spamming. Flooding, defined as repeated posting of redundant threads, and spamming, defined as posting of any advertisement or promotional materials, are strictly prohibited. If you see a thread by a spambot, do not post in it; doing so suggests that there is activity on the site and interest in the spam in particular.

No autoplay outside of your own profile page. Posting autoplay videos, mp3's, or SWF's outside of your own profile page is prohibited. This pertains to all comments, forum posts, and user pages. Violation of this rule may result in an extended period of ban.

Do not attempt to evade a ban. Using an alternate account, proxy IP address or other means of evading a ban are strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule may result in an extended period of ban.

Be friendly. We want our forums to be welcoming place for both old and new users. Please keep your comments and posts constructive and considerate in tone. If you observe a user breaking a rule, try advising the user in the right direction instead of posting insults or harsh criticisms. If the user persists, contact a forum moderator.

Around 1 month ago Cyber6x and I started a little MeetingWords and began writing the ruleset we thought would be good, it is fantastic to see that after gathering the help and input from so many mods and handing over the rules to amandab and the others that so many great things have come to fruition. Thank you Amanda, Cyber, Random, and everyone else for working so hard on this. Amanda, Brad, and Don especially for allowing so many users to work together for the betterment of KYM.

Anyway, I'm glad we were able to update the rules to include some modern rules that needed stating. Even more happy about the mandatory looking at the rules, so many deadpool-worthy entries (and even better, people complaining about them) will be avoided.

So thanks again admins & everyone else who contributed!

Now how many people are actually gonna follow these rules? Or at least be aware of them.
When a new user registers shouldn't a window pop up showing them the rules? They will see it regardless.
My minds a mess right now… I'll fix this later…

Just adding a note here. There used to be a point where you could have videos autoplay when you clicked on a spoiler link.

However, the videos are now autoplaying under the buttons. So keep the rule below in mind:

I just want to bring something up about etiquette when it comes to commenting on entries. Looking at this rule:

Although not explicitly stated as a rule, this common sense applies to commenting on entries as much as it does to posting in the forums. People often feel the need to comment on already deadpooled entries saying things like "+1 deadpool" and posting reaction images, which push the entries into the trending bar. So please, stop doing this. Feel free to comment on a deadpooled entry if you have something relevant to say, but please don't just post something like "This meme sux +2 deadpool".

The MobyGames Forum automatically closes old threads.

This thread is closed to new posts.
Old threads normally auto-close after 30 days of inactivity.
Why don't you start a new thread instead?

However, the Resident Evil Modding Forum manually locks threads. You might want to stop automatically closing old threads after 30 days of inactivity.

Threads are automatically closed after 30 days to avoid necrobumping and because, after 30 days, nothing's likely to happen in a thread anyways. It's just a way to keep the forums uncluttered.

Agreed. In addition, moderators with forum powers can lock threads at will, if need be. And if a thread is autolocked, we can technically go and open it back up.

However, the instances where a thread needs to be revived after being autolocked is much less likely than a user getting bored and bumping as many threads as possible.

However, you can start necrobumping in High-Logic forum. There is no rule about swearing… Wow, this forum has an quotation mark filter to convert straight quotes to smart quotes.

I don't think madcat or I said anything about swearing (although, excessive swearing in an antagonistic way does go against the "Be Friendly" rule). And, um, this isn't the High-Logic forum (as I'm sure we all know).

You know, you can always ask a forum mod to unlock a 30 day thread. They can lock/unlock threads when it's necessary, so they can probably remove an auto-lock. You just gotta have a reason to why you want it unlock and I think everything would go fine from there on out.

That or I have no idea what I'm talking about.

So, has JFF's moderation been confined to taking action based on the breaking of the rules, rather than moderator judgement?

Apparently, as of today, we're not allowed to take any action in JFF aside from redirecting unless it expressly breaks the basic rules (ie: spam, porn or gore).

So, no locking of stupid, irrational or pointless threads that aren't 'just for fun' or using common sense to moderate. So basically, if we have another set of threads like the >dear Apocalypse, if they were all made by different users, we couldn't intervene.

This isn't going to end well…

I didn't get directed here when I signed up. It should though. Some of these are common sense, the NSFW protocols should be directed to as well.

Is saying NSFW words such as "Dil…" "Vibra…." against the rule? (I currently censored it since I don't know yet.

I would assume no. You can censor with NSFW tags if you'd like, but it's probably fine. I mean there's an entry on Dragon Dildos, so why not? Just don't exessively use it. If I'm wrong, could a moderator correct me?

You get karma points by getting hit by Sans. They nullify invulnerability frames. In addition, as they drain away, you lose HP as well.
Fun fact: Posting the same thing multiple times and not deleting all but a single copy immediately afterwards is a sure way to get downvotes.

Ok, I'm goona show how dumb I really am when it comes down to this stuff. What is Sans? And what's HP? Hey, at least I've got the nack of making memes. I haven't had any issues with posting memes except for when i wanted to put them in the countest. Everything went fine until time for it all to download and it wouldn't download. I've got many more memes to post that I've made so I won't be duplicating any on here, no need to. How do you delete a meme? I deleted one before but now can't figure it out. Thanks for the reply.

So, this one user posted a comment containing a link to a website called Super Logout, which basically serves to automatically log you out of several commonly-used services. A useful tool if that's what you intend to do, but it activates instantly upon loading the page, so if one were to click a link to it unknowingly… it's not seriously damaging or anything, but I'm sure you can imagine how that would be inconvenient. The comment in question appears to have been intended to trick people into clicking on the link and getting mass logged-out unwillingly (granted, it's unlikely they'd be expecting the link to be genuine, but this is more than just a rickroll). That seems like it'd be a violation of some sort, but I'm not sure what the specific rules regarding this scenario are.
